Three days of virtual writer’s conference – the Pacific Northwest Writer’s Association. Back in April, I submitted an unpublished manuscript in their annual writing contest. While not making the cut to be a Finalist, it was a great learning experience. I had to people critique the manuscript which was submitted in the YA or Young Adult genre. Both reviewers thought the manuscript was a better fit in mainstream fiction. One reviewer loved the story. The other panned it and appeared to be stuck on how it fit into YA. I also received a comment on how to improve the final climax. The long and the short of this process was that I did make a change in the ending and I have gone back to publishing the work as mainstream fiction. It’s where the story belongs and I am glad to have the opinions. The novel is now stronger.
